Yashoda Hospitals-Secunderabad launches advanced PFA Technology for treatment of “Complex Heart Rhythm” disorders

Hyderabad: Yashoda Hospitals-Secunderabad marked another significant milestone in the field of cardiac electrophysiology by successfully introducing the state-of-the-art Pulse Field Ablation (PFA) technology for the treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders. Using the globally advanced Medtronic PulseSelect™ Pulse Field Ablation System, the Electrophysiology team successfully performed the procedure on two patients aged 31 and 84 suffering from complex cardiac arrhythmias, demonstrating the hospital’s commitment to bringing the latest global innovations in cardiac care to patients in India.
Pulse Field Ablation (PFA) is an innovative, non-thermal ablation technology primarily used to treat Atrial Fibrillation (AF) and other complex cardiac rhythm disorders. Unlike conventional thermal ablation techniques that use heat or extreme cold, PFA employs precisely controlled pulsed electric fields to selectively target abnormal cardiac tissue responsible for generating irregular electrical signals while preserving surrounding healthy structures. This highly selective approach significantly minimizes the risk of injury to adjacent organs such as the esophagus and the phrenic nerve, thereby enhancing procedural safety, reducing complications, and enabling faster patient recovery. The advanced technology was successfully utilized to treat two patients with complex cardiac rhythm disorders at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad.
The first patient, a 31-year-old man, had presented with recurrent palpitations and breathlessness. Comprehensive evaluation confirmed Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation associated with Left Atrial Tachycardia. He subsequently underwent a successful Pulse Field Ablation (PFA) procedure. Following treatment, he recovered well and remained symptom-free with restoration of a normal heart rhythm.
The second patient, an 84-year-old man, had recently been admitted with severe breathlessness. Further investigations revealed Persistent Atrial Fibrillation. He also underwent a successful Pulse Field Ablation (PFA) procedure. Following the intervention, his heart rhythm was successfully restored to normal sinus rhythm, his clinical condition improved significantly, and he was discharged home in a stable condition.
The procedures were successfully performed by Dr. M. S. Chandramouli, Senior Cardiac Electrophysiologist & Heart Failure Specialist, along with the Electrophysiology team at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M. S. Chandramouli, Senior Cardiac Electrophysiologist & Heart Failure Specialist, Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, said: “Pulse Field Ablation represents a revolutionary advancement in the treatment of cardiac rhythm disorders. The Medtronic PulseSelect™ Pulse Field Ablation System has enabled us to perform catheter ablation with greater precision while significantly enhancing patient safety. This technology has offered excellent clinical outcomes with minimal collateral tissue damage and faster recovery.
At Yashoda Hospitals, we have remained committed to making world-class cardiac technologies accessible to patients in India and delivering the highest standards of evidence-based cardiac care.”
The Department of Cardiac Electrophysiology at Yashoda Hospitals offers comprehensive diagnosis and treatment for atrial fibrillation and other complex cardiac arrhythmias. The department routinely performs complex catheter ablation procedures and provides advanced rhythm management therapies, including pacemaker implantation, Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators (ICDs), Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy
(CRT), leadless pacemakers, conduction system pacing, and comprehensive heart failure management under the care of highly experienced specialists.
