Review: Raat Akeli Hai On Netflix Is Impressive Directorial Debut For Honey Trehan

Raat Akeli Hai Movie Review: Honey Trehan's directorial debut Raat Akeli Hai on Netflix is a murder mystery with a runtime of two and half hours. The movie features Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Sweta Tripathi, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Radhika Apte, Ila Arun, Nishant Dahiya and Shivani Raghuvanshi among others. So, is Raat Akeli Hai worth watching?

Nawazuddin has played several kinds of characters earlier and he plays a cop in Raat Akeli Hai. His character is named Jatil Yadav, who is out to probe the death of UP's rich patriarch Raghuveer Singh. Once on the crime scene, Jatil has an eye for every minute detail and gathers within no time that there's more to the story than meets the eye.

The plot is well built and so is Nawaz's role as Jatil. His honesty, firmness and all the virtues of being a sincere cop are all apparent in his role. But what seems stereotypic in the movie is the usual hurdles that come in the way of his investigating the senior citizen's murder mystery. Be it his superiors or the local neta, they are all there to place obstacles in Jatil's path.

The best thing about the movie is the connection between characters which seem all so natural and the twists and turns add to your delight as you realise that there's more to the mystery than what's predictable. While the central plot is impressive, the sub romantic plot is a major distraction. Radhika Apte's talent is wasted and we simply don't get why he was cast in the first place because her role lacks substance.

The movie is still worth a watch for the way the debutante director has treated the subject. The star cast is worth a mention too.

Verdict: Nawazuddin Siddiqui's Raat Akeli is a good one-time watch.
