Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh has secured the first position nationally in the Best Performing State category under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0) Awards 2026, recognising the State’s efforts to accelerate urban housing and expand coverage of eligible beneficiaries.

The award was presented on World Habitat Day on Monday at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. Andhra Pradesh special secretary, housing, M Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, received the award on behalf of the State from Union minister of state for housing and urban affairs Tokhan Sahu.

Under the revamped implementation strategy, the unit cost of houses under PMAY-U 2.0 has been enhanced to Rs 2.50 lakh, with the Centre and state sharing the cost in a 60:40 ratio.

Of the 68,309 houses sanctioned across all 26 districts under PMAY-U 2.0, Andhra Pradesh has grounded 50,122 houses, recording the highest grounding percentage in the country, according to the Housing Department. The state has focused on expediting implementation through digital systems and close monitoring.

Applications from eligible households are being collected online, while funds are being transferred through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism using the SNA SPARSH platform. The state has also streamlined the submission of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) and strengthened district-level monitoring to ensure timely execution and transparency.

The housing department said the national recognition reflected the accelerated implementation of urban housing programmes in Andhra Pradesh and the State government’s focus on expanding housing coverage among eligible poor households.

The government has set a target of achieving 100 per cent housing coverage for all eligible poor families by 2029. The latest recognition under PMAY-U 2.0 is expected to further reinforce the state’s efforts towards comprehensive urban housing development and saturation-based delivery of housing benefits.
