Farmers demanding to declare Devanakonda mandal as drought-hit on Monday
Devanakonda: Farmers from Devanakonda mandal staged a road blockade on the Kurnool–Ballari main road on Monday, demanding that the government declare the mandal as drought-hit and extend immediate relief.
Gathering at the Devanakonda turning, a large number of farmers raised slogans seeking intervention over severe agricultural losses caused by inadequate rainfall.
The protesting farmers stated that prolonged dry conditions had left them in a critical situation, urging authorities to conduct a comprehensive assessment of crop damage and provide compensation. Leaders and activists from the CPI, CPM, and YSRCP extended their support, demanding official recognition of the drought-like conditions and swift relief for growers facing heavy financial distress.
The blockade severely disrupted vehicular movement on the busy highway, leaving numerous vehicles stranded on both sides and causing considerable inconvenience to commuters.
Police personnel rushed to the spot, regulated traffic, and restored normal movement while farmers reiterated their demands for government assistance.
