1.42 lakh Gruha Jyothi beneficiaries refuse survey in BESCOM limits
Bengaluru: An unusual finding has emerged from the survey of beneficiaries under the Karnataka government’s Gruha Jyothi scheme, with as many as 1,42,978 consumers in the BESCOM jurisdiction reportedly refusing to participate in the exercise.
The scheme provides free electricity to eligible households in the state. The survey also covers beneficiaries of the Bhagya Jyothi, Kuteera Jyothi and Amrutha Jyothi schemes who are included in the overall beneficiary count.
According to BESCOM data, there are 74,29,773 beneficiaries under these categories in its jurisdiction. Of them, the survey of 73,78,352 beneficiaries had been completed as of October 31, registering a progress rate of 99.31 per cent. However, the number of people who declined to participate has attracted attention. BESCOM figures show that 1,42,978 beneficiaries refused to cooperate with the survey, raising questions about the reasons behind their decision.
It remains unclear whether these consumers have chosen to discontinue the free electricity benefit or have declined the survey for other reasons. It is important to distinguish between refusing to participate in a survey and opting out of the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
