police has arrested a woman in Bengaluru
The police has arrested a woman in Bengaluru and her alleged lover for the killings of her 38-year-old husband and their five-year-old son, saying that the killings were premeditated.
Police says Harini, the accused, wanted to divorce her husband Vinay Kumar and live with her boyfriend Vinay Kumar. The couple reportedly met each other on Snapchat in December 2024 and have been dating ever since, investigators said.
The incident has been reported to have happened at the family home in Bengaluru. Police said Harini and her husband Abhinandan were having marital issues and have been sharing a separate room for almost two years.
Police said Abhinandan had become suspicious that his wife was communicating with another man. Around 15 days before the murders, he reportedly approached the police seeking her call detail records, which allegedly led to repeated arguments between the couple.
Investigators suspect the murder plan was finalised following an altercation between Harini and Abhinandan on August 14. Police said Abhinandan allegedly assaulted his wife during the dispute.
According to police, Harini subsequently contacted Vinay, and the two allegedly decided to kill Abhinandan.
Investigators said the accused had allegedly purchased two pairs of gloves before the incident. Police also suspect that CCTV cameras at the residence were switched off before the murders.
On Sunday night, Vinay allegedly arrived at the house and hid near the garage before entering the residence. Police said Harini waited until she was certain that her husband had fallen asleep.
Around 12.30 am, the two allegedly attacked Abhinandan. Police said Vinay strangled him while Harini restrained his legs.
During the attack, their five-year-old son reportedly woke up. Police allege that Harini then killed the child as well.
Bengaluru DCP North West Nagesh said stated that the child woke up during the altercation. Therefore, she has also confessed to killing the child. “During the altercation, the child woke up. Therefore, she has also confessed to killing the child. We have already taken Vinay Kumar into custody and are questioning him. He has also admitted his involvement in the incident,” DCP Nagesh said.
The deaths came to light on Monday morning after Harini reportedly contacted the police and informed them that her husband and son were unresponsive.
A police team reached the residence and found both victims dead. Harini was initially questioned by investigators.
She was initially hesitant to give information to police but later, she allegedly gave up information about Vinay and provide details about the alleged conspiracy, police said. Vinay was then taken into custody and is being interrogated.
The incident came into light after the injuries on Abhinandan's body were spotted and investigators suspected the matter as problematic. A more detailed investigation into the sequence of events and circumstances of the two deaths are ongoing.
