Govt to celebrate Engineers’ Day from next year: Shivakumar
Bengaluru: The government will officially celebrate Engineers’ Day from next year, Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on Tuesday. Speaking to the media after garlanding the statue of Sir M Visvesvaraya at KR Circle in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said the government had received a proposal to organise Engineers’ Day and he had given his consent. “More than one lakh engineers are being produced in our state every year. India has the highest number of engineers, and it is our responsibility to recognise their contribution. Engineers should look across the length and breadth of the state and contribute to its development. The modalities for celebrating the day will be discussed with officials and a decision will be taken,” he said.
Shivakumar said Engineers’ Day was being observed on Tuesday and the government had paid floral tribute to Sir M Visvesvaraya on the occasion.“Engineers are an asset to the country. They are the ones who translate the research and discoveries of scientists into reality. Engineers lay the foundation for all-round development. We have recognised engineers as part of our architectural heritage, and today they play a major role in sectors such as energy, construction and IT technology,” he said. Describing Sir M Visvesvaraya as a role model for the country, Shivakumar said his contribution to Karnataka was immense.
