Karnataka weather: rain forecast for Bengaluru and several districts today

Bengaluru: Several districts of Karnataka are likely to receive rain on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting thunderstorms and gusty winds in parts of the state. Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Tumakuru, Davanagere, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Shivamogga, Ballari, Kolar and Chikkaballapur are among the districts expected to receive rainfall.

Some areas could experience strong winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph during thunderstorms. Residents have been advised to remain cautious, particularly in areas likely to witness lightning and gusty weather.

In coastal Karnataka, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at several places. North Interior Karnataka districts, including Belagavi, Dharwad, Gadag and Haveri, could receive heavy rain accompanied by thunder at isolated places. Gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph are also possible during thunderstorms.

Several districts in North Karnataka are also likely to experience rainfall. Bagalkot, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura and Yadgir may receive light to moderate rain, with thunderstorms possible in some areas.

The weather department has also forecast isolated heavy rain in parts of South Interior Karnataka, including Shivamogga, Davanagere, Chikkamagaluru, Chitradurga, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Tumakuru, Ramanagara, Mandya and Chamarajanagar.

Ballari, Chikkaballapur, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mysuru and Vijayanagara are likely to receive moderate rainfall at several places. Gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kmph may accompany thunderstorms in these districts.

The forecast comes amid varying rainfall activity across Karnataka. During the 24-hour period ending Tuesday evening, monsoon activity was reported as normal over South Interior Karnataka but remained weak over Coastal Karnataka and North Interior Karnataka.

Several interior locations and isolated parts of the coast received rainfall during the period. M.M. Hills in Chamarajanagar recorded 9 cm of rain, while the Bengaluru HAL Airport observatory recorded 7 cm.

The weather system is expected to keep rainfall activity active across parts of Karnataka over the coming days, with thunderstorms and strong winds remaining possible in several districts.
