Minister questions HDK’s role in sting operation, calls for impartial probe

Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy
Ramanagara: Karnataka Minister H.C. Balakrishna has called for a proper investigation into the alleged sting operation involving Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, saying that the probe would help establish the facts and clear his name if he was not involved.
Speaking to reporters in Bidadi, Balakrishna remarked that Kumaraswamy, who had served twice as Chief Minister and is now a Union Minister, would not stoop to such an objectionable act. He said Kumaraswamy should cooperate with the investigation so that those responsible could be identified. Balakrishna questioned whether Kumaraswamy was even aware of the incident, adding that it had reportedly taken place at his residence. He suggested that someone in the house might have been involved without Kumaraswamy’s knowledge.
The minister also criticised Kumaraswamy for allegedly threatening police officers. He said such warnings would not intimidate the police and recalled an earlier incident in which Kumaraswamy had reportedly threatened the Hassan Deputy Commissioner. Referring to the Bengaluru Police Commissioner’s statement on the issue, Balakrishna said Kumaraswamy should approach the court if he believed the officer’s claims were incorrect.
“Threatening officers will serve no purpose. If the Commissioner’s statement is false, Kumaraswamy can challenge it in court,” he said, questioning whether the police officer could simply be punished for speaking about the matter. Balakrishna maintained that a transparent investigation was the appropriate way to establish the truth and remove any suspicion surrounding Kumaraswamy.
