Kannada and Culture and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Shivraj S. Tangadagi
Bengaluru: Kannada and Culture and Backward Classes Welfare Minister Shivraj S. Tangadagi has said the alleged conspiracy behind the sting operation controversy will be exposed sooner or later, noting that former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah himself has already responded to the issue.
Speaking to reporters at Arasu Bhavan in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Tangadagi alleged that Opposition leaders were trying to tarnish the State government’s image out of frustration and jealousy because they could not tolerate its development work.
Responding to a question on whether the sting operation was intended to damage Siddaramaiah’s reputation, the minister said BJP and JD(S) leaders could not tolerate either Siddaramaiah or Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. He alleged that the Opposition was attempting to create divisions within the ruling party. “While I do not know who has been losing sleep since DK Shivakumar became Chief Minister, Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy certainly seems unable to sleep,” he remarked.
Tangadagi said Chief Minister Shivakumar had cautioned ministers and party members to remain vigilant against Opposition attempts to create controversy and make allegations against the government. He said Kumaraswamy frequently referred to having a pen drive containing evidence, and the Chief Minister had advised everyone to exercise caution.
The minister said political opponents were inevitable, but those in Opposition should also appreciate good work done by the government. He added that he had no personal experience of any sting operation and was willing to speak openly with journalists.
Five committees formed for Rajyotsava Awards
Tangadagi said a meeting had been held with members of the advisory committee for the Karnataka Rajyotsava Awards to discuss the selection process. Five committees had been formed to streamline the process, and each committee had been asked to recommend eligible candidates in a 1:2 ratio. Their reports would be submitted at the next meeting.
He said the government intended to organise the presentation of the Karnataka Ratna awards announced for late actor Vishnuvardhan and veteran actress B. Saroja Devi on November 14 on the grand steps of Vidhana Soudha. The programme would be scheduled after confirming the Chief Minister’s availability.
On a request to confer the Karnataka Ratna on late actor Ambareesh, Tangadagi said Minister Ramalinga Reddy had written to the government seeking the honour. Describing Ambareesh as an outstanding actor deserving of the award, he said the matter would be discussed with the Chief Minister and appropriate action taken.
