437 water warriors to swing into action to check wastage
Hyderabad: The PAANI mobile application launched by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to prevent drinking water wastage and misuse is receiving a positive response, with 437 citizens registering as water warriors so far.
The initiative aims to make citizens active partners in water conservation by enabling them to report instances of drinking water wastage through the PAANI app. Interested citizens can register as Save Water Volunteers through the Water Board's website and download the app from Google Play Store.
Registered volunteers can report issues such as washing vehicles and floors with drinking water, overflowing overhead tanks, leakage and other forms of water misuse. Officials will verify complaints on the ground and initiate action as per regulations if violations are confirmed. The identities of complainants will be kept confidential.
In view of the anticipated El Niño conditions, the Water Board has urged citizens to prioritise water conservation and reduce household water consumption by at least 20 per cent. Residents have also been advised to prevent leakages and avoid using drinking water for unnecessary purposes.
The HMWSSB has appealed to residents of colonies, apartments, gated communities and residential complexes to register more volunteers and strengthen the campaign.
