BJP accuses Congress government of assaulting tribals and suppressing peaceful protests

Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the BJP strongly condemned the police crackdown on the Mahadharna organised by the BJP State Tribal Morcha on Monday at the Industrial Commissioner office in Abids. Protesters gathered to demand the immediate release of Rs 1700 crore in self-employment subsidy funds for tribals across the state. Leaders termed the police action an attempt to suppress dissenting voices, following the detention of around 200 leaders and activists at Afzalganj Police Station, including State General Secretary Vemula Ashok, Tribal Morcha State President Nenavat Ravi Nayak, former MP Ajmira Sitaram Nayak, office bearers, district presidents, and loan victims. Vemula Ashok alleged that the Congress government betrayed tribals after securing votes through declarations and promises. He questioned whether the administration would release the Rs 1700 crore subsidy owed to poor tribals who established business units through bank loans. Ashok warned that withholding subsidy payments pushes beneficiaries deeper into debt. Protesting leaders questioned why peaceful democratic demands were met with lathi charges and illegal arrests, accusing the administration of prioritizing commission generating projects over tribal welfare.

Condemning the arrests, the state BJP demanded the unconditional release of all detained leaders and urged the government to deposit the Rs 1700 crore subsidy arrears directly into beneficiaries bank accounts without delay. Party leaders warned that if the government maintains its stubborn stance, the BJP will intensify state-wide agitation and besiege the Secretariat against the anti-people administration.
