Hyderabad: BRS leaders on Friday demanded the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar to step down from his post and also urged the Supreme Court to take suomoto cognisance taking up an inquiry with a sitting judge.

Taking to X, the BRS working president KT Rama Rao said, “Nothing is greater than the Constitution of India. And no Indian citizen can be stripped of their right to vote Gyanesh Kumar must go! No individual is above the institution. This nation has seen many individuals come and go -and it has stayed strong, it has survived beautifully. So why this desperation to protect one man? How can one man be greater than the rights of 1.4 billion Indians? Time's up for Gyanesh Kumar and for anyone trying to build a quasi-system that destroys the soul of this great nation.”

The BRS leader further said, “We the BRS party reiterate our demand that Supreme Court needs to to take suo moto cognisance of the irregularities in SIR process and order an independent investigation headed by a sitting judge.

BRSLP Deputy Leader T Harish Rao demanded that (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar immediately resign from his post if he fails to uphold public trust. "The Election Commission is the backbone of democracy; it is not a protective shield for those in power. One loses the eligibility to hold office when public trust is lost; Gyanesh Kumar must immediately resign as CEC. Gyanesh Kumar must bear full responsibility if voters' rights are trampled upon. Doubts regarding the EC's independence and appointment processes pose a grave threat to our constitutional democracy.

No one has the right to deprive eligible citizens of their constitutional right to vote. In accordance with Articles 324, 325, and 326, as well as the Representation of the People Acts, the electoral system must function with complete impartiality and transparency. Democracy stands supreme and greater than any individual or government,” said Rao criticising the CEC's stance with the remark, ‘Gyanesh, it's done, bro’.

BRS parliamentary party leader MP Vaddiraju Ravichandra alleged that over 95,000 votes were deleted in the SIR in Telangana. He alleged that the anti-BJP votes were being deleted. He pointed out that when the BRS sought one vote for one person in the country, the CEC said that there was no such software. This shows how poor the working style of CEC is.
