Buckling under pressure, govt may cut TGSRTC-Metro pass fares
Hyderabad: The recently introduced TGSRTC-Metro Common Pass fares are likely to be reduced soon. The passengers have complained about the huge burden with 8,500 monthly and Rs 400 daily charges. Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the government is examining public feedback and prevailing conditions to make the common pass more affordable.
The Telangana government has decided to review the RTC-Metro Common Pass fares. Under the current fare structure, the daily Common Pass is priced at Rs 400, comprising Rs 300 for Metro services and Rs 100 for RTC services. The monthly common pass costs Rs 8,500, of which Rs 7,000 is allocated to Metro services and Rs 1,500 to RTC services.
The minister said the government had decided to reconsider the fares in response to concerns that the current prices were placing a financial burden on ordinary commuters. The decision follows directions from Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Ponnam Prabhakar said a meeting with senior officials would be held shortly to review the existing fare structure and explore options for making the common pass more affordable and accessible to the public.
He emphasised that the government’s primary objective was to strengthen the public transportation system and encourage more people to use RTC buses and Metro rail services. The government aims to introduce a fare structure that is convenient for commuters, meets their travel needs and offers financial benefits.
The minister said public feedback would be taken into account before a final decision was made on revising the RTC-Metro Common Pass fares.
