Hyderabad: Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy alleged on Monday that established rules were violated during the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, strongly criticizing modifications made to the selection panel framework.
State Congress leaders staged a demonstration at Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi on Monday, where ministers, MPs, and MLAs assembled before embarking on a rally towards the Supreme Court. Speaking at the protest venue, Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy alleged that the appointment of Gyanesh Kumar proceeded after altering statutory rules governing selection procedures. He specifically objected to excluding the Chief Justice of India from the selection committee and replacing the judicial representative with a Union Minister. The parliamentarian criticized changes to the committee composition, arguing that removing judicial oversight raises serious concerns regarding the overall fairness and institutional transparency of the appointment process. Congress leaders participated in the demonstration as part of their national campaign addressing concerns regarding Election Commission autonomy and voter rights protection.
