Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday demanded that BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) tender an apology over the alleged objectionable remarks made by BRS MLC Tata Madhu against the Speaker. He also urged the Legislative Council Chairman to dismiss the MLC from the Council.
Speaking during a discussion in the Assembly on the remarks made by Tata Madhu, Revanth Reddy said the incident had brought disrepute to the dignity and decorum of the legislature. The Chief Minister said he had witnessed proceedings in several legislative sessions but had never come across such objectionable language being used against a Speaker. He asserted that condoning such behaviour would undermine the dignity of legislative institutions. “Insulting the Speaker is an insult to the House itself. Such an indignity has never occurred before in independent India.
The member who used such language should be dismissed,” Revanth Reddy said. He also demanded that KCR take responsibility for the remarks and ensure the resignation of the MLC. Revanth Reddy maintained that the incident was not spontaneous but a pre-planned move. He claimed that KCR had summoned BRS legislators to his Erravalli farmhouse a day earlier and allegedly incited them against the Speaker. After the House reconvened following an adjournment, the government decided to take up the issue of the alleged insult to the Speaker. However, BJP members initially demanded that the discussion on Section 22A be taken up first. The CM questioned the BJP members for allegedly echoing the allegations made by BRS leaders and described the incident as a “dark day” for Telangana. He appealed to the BJP members to cooperate with the discussion on the alleged insult to the Speaker, saying that other issues could be taken up thereafter.
