Hyderabad: The CPI(M) is considering contesting the upcoming Graduate MLC elections in Telangana and will take a final decision after internal party discussions and consultations with other Left parties, CPI(M) State Secretary John Wesley said.
Speaking to the media after a meeting with Congress leaders at MB Bhavan, the CPI(M) State office, on Friday, Wesley said the Congress delegation had sought the party’s support for its candidates in the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar and Khammam-Nalgonda-Warangal Graduate MLC constituencies.
He said the CPI(M) had informed the Congress leaders that it was exploring the possibility of contesting the seats itself and was holding discussions with other Left parties.
The party would announce its decision after a meeting of the State Secretariat and further consultations with its Left allies, he added. Wesley recalled that the CPI(M) had previously supported Professor K. Nageshwar, who won the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar Graduate MLC seat twice.
Candidates backed by the Left parties had also secured a considerable number of votes in the Khammam-Nalgonda-Warangal constituency, he noted.
