EESL to showcase India’s energy-efficiency success in Germany
Hyderabad: Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) will showcase India’s experience and success in implementing energy-efficiency and clean-energy programmes across states at an international knowledge-exchange programme in Ravensburg, Germany, from September 28 to October 2.
An EESL communique on Sunday said that it was invited by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to participate in the international study tour and share India’s experience in energy efficiency, clean-energy solutions and sustainable development. This will provide an opportunity to highlight how large-scale energy-efficiency programmes have been translated into practical solutions across diverse geographies and sectors, it added.
The International Energy Efficiency Summit will bring together policymakers, technology providers, industry experts and development partners from different countries to exchange experiences on innovative energy-efficiency interventions, clean-energy technologies and climate-resilient solutions.
EESL to highlight a range of initiatives implemented across the states in the country. This will demonstrate the potential of scalable, locally adapted solutions to deliver energy savings, improve public services, and support sustainable development.
As part of it, EESL will present energy-efficient cooking solutions in all Anganwadi centres in Andhra Pradesh; street-lighting initiatives in Telangana; decentralised solar systems in Maharashtra; energy-efficient buildings in Gujarat; smart metering initiatives in Bihar; street-lighting programmes in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan; electric mobility initiatives in Odisha; micro cold-storage systems in Himachal Pradesh; and energy-efficient water-pumping systems in Kerala.
In particular, EESL’s experience in Telangana with energy-efficient street lighting is one of several state-level initiatives showing how technology-led interventions can improve public lighting services while promoting more efficient electricity use.
The Telangana case study showcases the successful implementation of an energy-efficient LED street lighting project in the GHMC area by replacing approximately 5.5 lakh conventional street lights with energy-efficient LED street lights. The EESL said that “this has resulted in substantial energy savings of more than 61%, leading to an annual energy saving of 230 Million Units (MU), reduction of 0.19 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per annum, and avoided peak demand of 60 MW.”
The study tour will also provide an international platform to highlight initiatives to transform cooking practices in public institutions. EESL’s work under the National Efficient Cooking Programme seeks to promote modern, energy-efficient cooking solutions and reduce dependence on conventional cooking methods.
The Ravensburg programme aims to facilitate not only knowledge exchange on global technologies, research, policy frameworks, and implementation models, but also for EESL to share India’s implementation experience. It is also expected to strengthen collaboration among governments, industry, technology providers, and development partners in advancing energy efficiency and clean-energy solutions.
