Rangareddy: Rein forcingthe ongoing fight against rising Tuberculosis cases across Rangareddy district, the Medical and Health Department launched the Join Our Support to End TB campaign as part of the nationwide TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan initiative on Thursday.

District Additional Collector Dr Kiranmayi presided over the inauguration event alongside District Medical and Health Officer Dr Kalyan Chakravarthy.

According to Right to Information data obtained by city-based non-governmental organisation Helping Hand Foundation, Rangareddy records the second-highest number of Tuberculosis cases in Telangana state after Hyderabad. During recent state-wide screening drives, Rangareddy conducted 3.88 lakh screenings, securing the second spot statewide.

District healthcare facilities, including the District TB Control Office situated at Shivarampally in Rajendranagar, provide free diagnostic evaluations and advanced CBNAAT or Xpert sputum testing. Regional government healthcare centres such as Kondapur District Hospital, alongside various urban and rural primary clinics, manage frontline Directly Observed Treatment Short-Course distribution while offering free nutritional assistance provided under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan scheme.

Addressing the gathering during the launch, newly appointed DMHO Dr Kalyan Chakravarthy highlighted that the JOSH team will play a pivotal role in reaching national eradication targets set for 2025 under the broader campaign. He urged students and local youth to lead public awareness drives, identify symptomatic individuals, and ensure prompt referral to nearby healthcare centres for diagnosis.

The launch event was attended by senior district administrative personnel, including the District Panchayat Officer, District Education Officer, dedicated tuberculosis officers, medical practitioners, clinical staff, and active JOSH team volunteers dedicated to public health outreach.
