Palamuru leaders up in arms against drawing of irrigation water from Yedula reservoir to Dindi scheme

Jadcherla MLA Janampalli Anirudh Reddy
Hyderabad: The proposed diversion of water from the Yedula reservoir to the Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme has triggered differences among Congress leaders from the erstwhile Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda districts, with the issue gaining political significance.
R&B Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy, representing the erstwhile Nalgonda district, have been advocating the supply of water from the Yedula reservoir to the Dindi project. However, Congress leaders from the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district, along with BJP leaders, have strongly opposed the proposal, insisting that the region’s irrigation requirements must be prioritised.
Jadcherla MLA Janampally Anirudh Reddy on Saturday made his opposition clear at a press conference.
He declared that he would not compromise on the water rights of the Palamuru region, even if it meant opposing his political mentor, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.
Aniruth Reddy said, “For me, the interests of my own region remain paramount. I would gladly sacrifice my life for Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, but I would never tolerate the diversion of water meant for the Palamuru region”.
Anirudh Reddy demanded that water be supplied to the Palamuru region through the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme before any allocation was considered for the Dindi project. He alleged that only 60 per cent of the Palamuru-Rangareddy project works had been completed during the previous BRS regime.
He also recalled that former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had stated in the Assembly that water for the Dindi scheme would be drawn from Yedula, questioning why opposition parties had remained silent at the time.
The Jadcherla MLA extended his support to the Jala Deeksha being organised by a Joint Action Committee (JAC) and called for all MLAs from the Palamuru region to work together to expedite the Palamuru-Rangareddy project. He also urged political leaders not to target Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on every issue, stating that he was responsible for the entire state.
Meanwhile, Mahabubnagar BJP MP DK Aruna also rejected the proposal to divert water from Yedula to Dindi.
The Dindi scheme is intended to provide irrigation and drinking water to drought-prone and fluoride-affected areas of Nalgonda district, including Munugode and Devarakonda.
