Hyderabad: Amid the political controversy over Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s remarks that “Shiva is the god of the poor, while Rama is the god of the rich,” TPCC President B. Mahesh Kumar Goud has defended the Chief Minister and endorsed his comments.
Speaking to the national media in Hyderabad on Tuesday, Mahesh Kumar Goud questioned why Revanth Reddy should apologise for the remarks. He suggested that the Chief Minister was referring to the traditional visual representations of Lord Rama and Lord Shiva.
Goud said Lord Rama is traditionally depicted in royal attire and adorned with ornaments, while Lord Shiva is portrayed wearing tiger skin and without jewellery or material ostentation. He questioned whether highlighting the differences in their traditional depictions was inappropriate. Mahesh Kumar Goud further stated that Congress leaders have immense respect and devotion towards both Lord Rama and Lord Shiva. He said they pray to both deities and believe that the blessings of all gods are always with them.
