Poll-wary BRS begins scouting for a winning horse in Khairatabad fight

Main opposition BRS is actively scouting for a formidable candidate in the upcoming bye-election to the Khairatabad Assembly Constituency, aiming to wrest the seat back following the disqualification of turncoat MLA Danam Nagender by the court. According to party sources, the name of Sai Kiran Yadav, son of BRSLP Deputy Leader Talasani Srinivas Yadav, has emerged prominently during internal party discussions. Srinivas Yadav has reportedly assured the BRS high command that he will personally manage campaign expenditures to secure victory. Sai Kiran Yadav previously contested unsuccessfully from the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency twice.

BRS is treating the Khairatabad contest as a prestige battle. This marks the third bye-election since Congress assumed power, following previous Congress victories in the Secunderabad Cantonment and Jubilee Hills bye-elections. The opposition party is determined to win the constituency to demonstrate growing anti-incumbency against the ruling administration. Concurrently, BRS leadership is evaluating P Vishnuvardhan Reddy, son of former CLP leader P Janardhan Reddy.

Party leaders recalled that during the Jubilee Hills bye-election, Vishnuvardhan Reddy was promised accommodation in an alternative constituency, benefiting from his late father's enduring legacy and local popularity in Khairatabad.

Meanwhile, party in-charge Manne Goverdhan Reddy is making a strong bid for the nomination. Goverdhan Reddy has remained with BRS since its inception, having contested the seat unsuccessfully in 2014. He has consistently overseen local organizational activities and actively spearheaded various party initiatives, making him a hopeful contender this time. Rumours also suggest that his wife, Manne Kavitha Reddy, a GHMC corporator representing the Venkateshwara Colony Division, could be considered for the ticket. The BRS leadership aims to finalize its candidate selection swiftly to mobilize ground cadres and mount a decisive, unified campaign to regain the crucial urban assembly seat.
