As Ganesh Utsav Samithi preps for ‘immersive’ CM’s speech… Will CM Revanth break the jinx ?

Hyderabad: Netas have a penchant for throwing mud at fellow politicians if they are away from public life and remain incommunicado for a few months. They are usually accused of practicing ‘occult’ practices on the sly to bring harm to the state or region so as to pin the blame on the ruling party.

Yet, as members of the ruling party, they will not normally take chances with jinxed places, premises or events (see box). In Telangana, the latest suspense-packed thriller is whether Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy will break the jinx and attend the mass immersion program of the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi on Friday and address from their forum.

For, the jinx associated with the special event is that the Chief Minister who attends the Samithi programme will never come back as CM in the subsequent government. The mass immersion programme is being organised by the Samithi on the occasion of Anant Chturdashi, which falls on Friday. The Samithi has the practice of inviting guests from other states, including swamijis from various maths and chief ministers of other states. This time the Samithi members have invited Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to attend the programme as chief guest and address Ganesh devotees from the podium.

As per records, some Chief Ministers of the (undivided) state who had visited Samithi program could not retain their seat again. Dr Marri Channa Reddy was the first to attend such a programme as the chief guest and he lost the subsequent election. Then NT Rama Rao came to power. He also had to face defeat after he participated as chief guest in the Samithi’s program. Then T Anjaiah, who became the chief minister also attended the program as the chief guest and faced the same fate, said a senior Samithi leader Kirodimal Narsinghpuria.

Interestingly , the Samithi had invited CMs from other state but this jinx did not affect them. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma was previously invited and he attended the programme. He retained his post with a huge margin.

Now, the big question on everyone's mind is: Will Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who has declared the he will “remain a CM till May 2034”, show courage to break this jinx.
