Rare sculpture of Bala Ganesha discovered in Adilabad district
Hyderabad: A rare sculpture of Bala Ganesha was noticed in Adilabad district by local history lecturer Prudhviraj Roddawar, according to Kotha Telangana Charitra Brundam President Sriramoju Haragopal and Archaeologist E Siva Nagireddy. Depicting Goddess Parvati seated in sukhasana on a pedestal holding a fruit in her right hand, the sculpture portrays her breastfeeding Bala Ganesha held in her left lap—a rare iconographic feature across both Telugu states.
Shown in his tender age, Bala Ganesha features two hands without a kireeta crown on his elephantine head, matching the 1104 CE Paramara dynasty style of the Lakshmi Narayana temple in Jainath. Currently situated under a tree near the railway track on the outskirts of Chanda Sivaram village near Adilabad city, Haragopal and Siva Nagireddy appealed to local residents and authorities to shift the ancient artifact to the Gram Panchayat office for long-term preservation for future generations.
