Hyderabad: The Left and social forces alliance led by SFI won a resounding victory in the 2026–27 Hyderabad Central University (HCU) student union elections. Candidates from the SFI–ASA–AISA–DSU–TSF alliance won several key posts.

Celebrations were held on the HCU campus after the election results were declared, following the SFI-led alliance's victory and its win of most seats. The elections were largely a contest between the ABVP and the SFI-led alliance.

According to SFI student leaders, Dilshada, contesting for President on behalf of SFI, defeated ABVP candidate P. Naresh by 451 votes. Dilshada secured 2,178 votes, while Naresh received 1,727 votes.

For Vice President, SFI alliance candidate Korra Nitin Chauhan defeated ABVP candidate Barsharani Behera by 287 votes.

Prateek, contesting for General Secretary, defeated ABVP alliance candidate Vineesh Choudhary by 311 votes.

Siddhant, contesting for Joint Secretary from the SFI alliance, defeated ABVP candidate Saptagiri by 399 votes. Abhinash Kumar, the SFI alliance candidate, won the post of Cultural Secretary by defeating ABVP candidate Madhura with a narrow margin of five votes.

For the ICC GSCASH (PG) post, SFI candidate Nafi defeated ABVP candidate Chaitanya Sai by a margin of 677 votes. For the ICC GSCASH (PhD) post, SFI alliance candidate B. Lavanya defeated ABVP candidate Soni Barla by a margin of 180 votes.

Preliminary results also indicate that the SFI alliance secured 32 of the 59 positions for School Councillors and School Board members across 13 schools.

Reacting to the election outcome, the SFI Telangana State Committee said the electoral verdict made it clear that the democratic atmosphere on campus had suffered during the ABVP student union's tenure over the past year. It also alleged attacks on those raising student issues and noted that efforts to provide basic infrastructure were insufficient.

Meanwhile, the SFI Telangana State Committee said these results showed the student community's support for those fighting for student issues, rights, and campus democracy.

State President S Ranjinikanth and State Secretary T Nagaranu congratulated the winning candidates and hailed the HCU student community for delivering this victory. The SFI alliance said it would work on issues such as upholding campus democracy, resolving student grievances, and improving infrastructure, while acknowledging the responsibility students have entrusted to it.
