Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Secretary Mohd. Saleem has alleged that Union Home Minister Amit Shah's Hyderabad padayatra under the slogan "Save Democracy and Remove Anarchy" reflects the BJP's fear of losing public support following the Congress-led INDIA alliance rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.
In a media release on Tuesday, Saleem accused the BJP government of weakening democratic institutions and misusing agencies such as the Election Commission, ED, CBI, Income Tax Department and NIA to target opposition parties and other sections of society.
He questioned the BJP's campaign to protect democracy after nearly 12 years in power and alleged that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was being used for vote manipulation. He demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over allegations of electoral irregularities.
Referring to Shah's visit to the temple near Charminar, Saleem accused the BJP of exploiting religious sentiments and communal issues for political gains. He alleged that the party was resorting to communal polarisation to divert public attention from governance failures.
