Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Sunday condemned Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s comments on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, alleging that the BJP was trying to come to power by selectively deleting targeted votes.
Addressing a gathering after welcoming youth leaders from OBC and Munnuru Kapu associations into the BJP, Rao termed the Chief Minister’s allegation absurd. He pointed out that Kerala elections were held after completion of the SIR process, during which the Congress won. He questioned how the revision process could be linked exclusively to the BJP’s electoral prospects. Rao alleged that the Chief Minister was making false allegations out of fear of defeat amid growing public opposition to the Congress government and the BJP’s rising popularity in national surveys.
The BJP chief further alleged that the Congress government was misusing official machinery under the guise of SIR to remove voters favourable to the BJP. He expressed concern over the alleged targeted deletion of lakhs of BJP supporters’ votes, particularly in the Secunderabad Parliamentary Constituency.
Rao also alleged that voters who had migrated from neighbouring Telugu states, settled locally and supported the BJP were being targeted. He claimed that even family members of senior BJP leaders were being harassed with notices on technical grounds.
Reminding that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are state government employees, Rao urged them to perform their constitutional duties impartially and resist illegal pressure.
Citing action taken against officials over irregularities in Khammam district, he warned that legal action would be pursued and complaints submitted to the Election Commission of India with evidence.
Rao said youth were joining the BJP in large numbers, attracted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership and welfare-oriented governance. He welcomed the OBC and Munnuru Kapu youth leaders from the BRS and assured new members of due respect in the party.
Meanwhile, in a meeting attended by BJP MP Alka Gurjar, in-charge for SIR process in Telangana and chaired by Rao reviewed with the BLAs and the steps the party should observe to ensure that eligible voters are not denied voting rights.
