T-BJP hits out at Cong protest against CEC

HYDERABAD: The Telangana BJP on Monday hit out at the Congress protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and Form-6, questioning what it called the alleged misuse of the police administration against Opposition parties. The Congress held protests in Hyderabad on Monday seeking the CEC’s resignation over issues related to SIR.

State BJP chief spokesperson and media in-charge N V Subhash, former MP and State vice-president Boora Narasiah Goud, and BJP Legislature Party leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy criticised the Congress and its INDIA bloc allies’ allegations.

Aleti Maheshwar Reddy said SIR and Form-6 were based on legal provisions, Election Commission explanations and court rulings. He questioned the Congress claim linking electoral-roll revisions with BJP electoral victories, asking how the entire process could be termed “vote theft” without considering the possibility of ineligible or duplicate entries.

He alleged that the Congress was misleading the public by claiming that 13 crore eligible votes had been removed and said the Election Commission had clarified its position.

N V Subhash and Narasiah Goud alleged that the Congress-sponsored protest exposed the party’s agenda. They accused the Congress-led Telangana government of using the police machinery against Opposition protests while allegedly allowing Congress-backed demonstrations targeting a constitutional authority.

Subhash also questioned what he described as “double standards” in police action, alleging that cases were registered against peaceful Opposition protests while police remained silent when Congress workers raised slogans against the CEC.

He further alleged that Congress and its allies were targeting Gyanesh Kumar because of his earlier responsibilities in the Union Government, including work relating to the abrogation of Articles 370 and 35A and the Ram Janmabhoomi trust. Boora Narasiah Goud described the Congress allegations as a pre-emptive attempt to explain anticipated electoral setbacks. He challenged the Congress to seek Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation only after resigning from power in Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana and Kerala, where, he said, elections were conducted under the current CEC’s supervision.
