Hyderabad: The Congress high command has directed Telangana Congress leaders to reach New Delhi to participate in the agitation against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The Congress party is preparing for a major protest in the national capital on October 12 under the banner of the INDIA bloc to condemn the functioning of the Election Commission of India and demand accountability over the electoral roll revision process.
Against this backdrop, AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal has issued directives to the Telangana Congress leadership to ensure the participation of state leaders including MPs, MLAs, MLCs, District and District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents, TPCC vice-presidents, general secretaries and senior leaders, in the proposed demonstration. Following Venugopal’s instructions, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Bomma Mahesh Kumar Goud has asked all the designated leaders to reach Delhi by the night of October 11 or the morning of October 12. The party intends to intensify its agitation demanding the abolition of the SIR process and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In a communication to party leaders, the TPCC president emphasised that attendance was compulsory and urged them to treat the directive as a matter of utmost priority.
The mobilisation of Telangana leaders is part of the Congress’s broader campaign against the electoral roll revision exercise. The party has raised concerns over the process and called for measures to ensure the protection of eligible voters’ rights. Telangana Congress leaders are expected to join their national counterparts and other INDIA bloc leaders in the proposed protest in New Delhi on October 12.
