Tax revenue from GST, registrations, sales tax and liquor sales registered nearly 3 per cent growth in April, May and June when compared to last year

Hyderabad: The Telangana state registered a positive growth in tax and non-tax revenues in the first quarter of this financial year. Interestingly, borrowing and other liabilities also increased the highest ever between April and June in the 2026-2027 financial year.

According to a report by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), the state generated nearly Rs 4,357 crore more tax and non-tax revenue in the first three months of the current financial year when compared to the same period a year ago. The total revenue was Rs 41,144 crore in Q1FY27 against Rs 36,787 crore in the same period in FY26.

The tax revenue also increased by nearly Rs 3,000 crore to Rs 38,447 crore in the first three months of the current fiscal year. Non-tax revenue has increased to Rs 2,697 crore as against Rs 1,066 crore last year. “Tax revenue from GST, registrations, sales tax and liquor sales registered nearly 3 per cent growth in April, May and June when compared to last year”, officials said, adding that the CAG report on revenue generation was a testament to how reforms in the revenue generating departments are paying rich dividends.

As per the CAG report, the Stamps and Registration Department earned Rs 4,510 crore revenue through property registrations in June. It was 23 per cent of the total target of Rs 19,543 crore from registrations this year. A revenue of Rs 5,044 crore from liquor sales was also clear indication of the impressive growth in the tax collections, officials said.
