Hyderabad: The Telangana government has approved a revised administrative sanction of Rs 1,720.83 crore for the comprehensive operation and maintenance of 7.6 lakh LED streetlights across the Hyderabad CURE region for the next 10 years.

According to the Government Order, issued by the Metropolitan Area and Urban Development Department on November 3, the project will cover the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC).

The government has approved awarding the project to a joint venture of BAC Infratech Private Limited and Vinci Global Private Limited, which emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) with a quotation of Rs 153.60 per streetlight per month. The project will cover 7,60,591 LED streetlights, along with Centralised Control and Monitoring System (CCMS) panels and associated infrastructure. The initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted street lighting, reduce repair delays, improve maintenance standards and strengthen performance monitoring.

In another decision, the government has approved engaging Osmania University as the Third-Party Agency (TPA) for monitoring the project. The university will oversee quality assurance, billing validation, performance reporting and assessment of penalties. An amount of Rs 31.50 crore has been provided based on the quotation received. As per GO, the total project cost of Rs 1,720.83 crore will be shared among the three municipal corporations based on their respective streetlight counts. The tri-corporation include GHMC with 3,30,487 streetlights – Rs 747.72 cr, CMC (1,85,258 streetlights, Rs 419.16 cr) and MMC (2,44,846 streetlights, Rs 553.95 cr) with total amount of Rs 1,720.83 crore. The revised allocation includes the maintenance contract, 18 per cent GST, third-party monitoring charges and other applicable taxes and unforeseen expenses.

The earlier administrative sanction stood at Rs 1,341.60 crore. Following the tender process and inclusion of additional costs, the government approved an additional Rs 379.23 crore, taking the total project expenditure to Rs 1,720.83 crore. The government has also approved issuing the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) to the selected joint venture and executing separate agreements with each municipal corporation.
