Hyderabad: A 40-member group of teachers led by Telangana State School Education Department (TGSED) Director Dr E. Naveen Nicolas visited Chiyoda kindergarten and elementary schools and Junior High School of Tsukuba University in Tokyo as part of a five-day teachers’ exposure visit and educational exchange programme that commenced on Tuesday. The programme was organsied in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Centre (JICE) to give an in-depth understanding of Japan’s educational best practices, curriculum reforms, and innovative pedagogies.

The delegation members met with officials at the National Institute of Educational Policy Research (NIER) to learn about Japan’s approaches to curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment. The teachers’ group also met with the Ambassador of India to Japan, Nagam Mohamed Mallik, in Tokyo and discussed opportunities for future educational collaboration between Telangana and Japanese Educational Institutions.

The 40-member teachers’ group took stock of the Japanese education ecosystem. This includes compulsory and free public education, with special impetus on the holistic development of students across a wide range of aspects, including physical, social, emotional, and moral growth. It also highlighted teachers’ functioning and school practices, group learning, focus on special needs, and the integration of ICT in delivering outcomes. Also, how the schools are making students aware of disaster preparedness, participation in safety drills and their adaptability in the Telangana education framework.
