Toilet worries for tourists at Charminar
Tourists visiting Charminar, both domestic and international continue to suffer owing to non-availability of proper toilets.
Charminar: Tourists visiting Charminar, both domestic and international continue to suffer owing to non-availability of proper toilets. Even after spending huge amounts, the toilets catering to tourists near traffic police station near to the monument remain ill-maintained or completely closed most of the time.
Thousands of tourists visit the monument which is globally known as symbol of Hyderabad to witness the architectural marvel reflecting the centuries of history. But visitors continue to face inconvenience and spend part of their time hunting for nearby 'washroom' facility. "I thought of using toilet near Charminar, but since it was out of order, I asked the locals. Some of them asked me to use Sulabh toilet, which is also not properly maintained. Authorities should offer some relief to tourists by providing proper toilets for tourists," said Rakesh from North India, who was in City along with his family.
In 2017, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) constructed 2 modern electronic She toilets (e-toilets) by spending around Rs 7 lakh on each toilet near traffic police station at Charminar, but now it's not well-maintained and most of the time it remains closed. "It was installed as part of campaign 'Swachh Bharat Mission' with slogan 'Ek Khadam Swachhata ki Or' but there is no Swachhata in this e-toilets near Charminar. During any festival or pooja in temple where lakhs of devotees attend, the GHMC gave the contract to Sulabh for the maintenance of e-toilets. It's an automatic toilet but most of the time remains out of order," said, a Sulabh worker.
