Kadapa: A new sniffer dog, Johnny, was inducted into YSR Kadapa district police to further strengthen department’s capabilities in crime detection, investigation and identification of offenders, informed district SP Shelke Nachiket Vishwanath.
Johnny, a Belgian Malinois, underwent 10 months of specialised training at 6th Battalion, Canine Training Centre, Mangalagiri Police Headquarters. Johnny, which undergone dual training in both narcotics detection and tracking also, secured third place and won a bronze medal. The SP presented medal to Johnny and rewarded the canine with a cash incentive in recognition of its achievement.
On Wednesday, SP Vishwanath inspected newly inducted canine Johnny at district police office. He interacted with dog squad personnel and issued several instructions regarding the effective utilisation of trained canines in crime detection. He told them to pay special attention to health, nutrition and overall well-being of the canines, which play a vital role in crime detection and investigation.
With the induction of Johnny, the total strength of the district dog squad has increased to 10. Additional SP (AR) B Ramanaiah, Special Branch DSP N Sudhakar, RI Peddayya, RSI Venkateswarlu, Dog Squad in-charge AR Head Constable P Sunil Kumar and Handlers BV Krishna and TV Ratnam participated in the programme.
