Karimnagar: Sharannavaratri celebrations began at the Sri Mahashakti Temple in Karimnagar with special rituals and floral decorations on Sunday. Union Minister for State Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar attended the dhwajarohan (Flag hoisting ) and performed special pujas.
On the first day of the festival, the presiding deity was adorned as Sri Bala Tripura Sundari Devi (Shailaputri), in Surya Prabha Alankaram. The deity’s decorated appearance drew large numbers of devotees, with thousands visiting the temple on the opening day.
The Bala Tripura Sundari form is revered as a symbol of strength, knowledge, courage and purity. Devotees believe that worshipping the Goddess during the opening days of Navaratri inspires spiritual devotion and encourages people to follow good values.
The flag-hoisting ceremony was held at 11 am, marking the commencement of the festivities. Temple organisers provided lunch and evening snacks to devotees, particularly those observing Bhavani Deeksha. The facility will continue until the conclusion of Navaratri, they said.
As part of the celebrations, Brahmasri Dr Garrepalli Maheshwara Sharma has delivered daily discourses on Sri Bhagavata Vaibhavam. Dandiya programmes featuring devotional songs and elements of Telangana culture are the key attractions.
