Religious harmony essential for devpt: Gangula Kamalakar

Karimnagar: Former minister and local MLA Gangula Kamalakar said the country can progress when people belonging to different religions live together with mutual respect and harmony.

He was speaking after inaugurating a three-day Seerah Expo organised by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind at Circus Ground in Karimnagar on Friday. The exhibition, being held from September 25 to 27 to mark the month of Prophet Muhammad’s birth, features more than 40 projects on his life, teachings and values.

Kamalakar inaugurated the expo along with Karimnagar Mayor Kolagani Srinivas, BRS city president Challa Harishankar and the organisers. He visited the various stalls and interacted with the organisers to learn about the projects on display.

The exhibition features student projects highlighting themes associated with the life of Prophet Muhammad, including kindness, honesty, justice, care for neighbours and service to society.

The organisers requested financial assistance to award students who performed well in the project presentations. Responding to the request, Kamalakar contributed Rs 60,000 towards the prizes.

He urged people to maintain cordial relations with one another and live together peacefully irrespective of their religious background.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Karimnagar president Sohaib Ahmed Khan thanked the guests and invited people from all communities to visit the expo and learn about the Seerah and its message.

Also present were former deputy mayor Challa Harishankar, MIM Karimnagar president Syed Ghulam Ahmed Hussain, Laksh Foundation and Laksh Group of Schools president Dr Muhammad Mustaq Ali, Alphores Group of Schools chairman V Narendra Reddy, former deputy mayor Abbasami, Wasim Sahab and Azhar Dabeer.

The organisers have invited families, students and residents of Karimnagar and surrounding areas to visit the expo at Circus Ground until September 27.
