Bhadrachalam: The Godavari river has recorded an unusually low water level at Bhadrachalam in October, raising concerns among residents of the Agency region over the possible impact of deficient rainfall and rising temperatures in the coming months. The river’s water level stood at 10.1 ft on Wednesday, against the 20-30 ft generally recorded during the same month in previous years, according to local official sources.

The decline has been attributed to inadequate rainfall this year, with El Niño conditions cited as a possible contributing factor. The river, which usually carries a relatively higher volume of water during this period, has presented a markedly different picture this year.

Meanwhile, temperatures in Bhadrachalam have also risen compared with previous years. While temperatures during October were generally around 30 degrees Celsius earlier, they have now touched nearly 35 degrees Celsius, officials said.

The combination of reduced river flows and rising temperatures has triggered concerns among residents of the Godavari basin, particularly those living in the Agency region, over the availability of water in the months ahead.

Residents fear that the situation could worsen during the summer if rainfall remains deficient and river inflows decline further. The unusually low water level in October has also raised questions about the river’s condition in the coming months.

The situation has drawn attention to the need to closely monitor rainfall patterns, river inflows and water availability in the region. However, the extent of any potential water shortage will depend on rainfall and inflows in the coming months.
