Telangana Student Leader Meets Rahul Gandhi Over Fee Reimbursement, OBC Issues

KHAMMAM: Hyderabad Central University (HCU) student leader Rakesh Datta, who hails from Khammam, met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi and raised issues concerning OBC students and pending fee reimbursement dues in Telangana, according to a statement issued by Datta.

The meeting was held during a special programme organised by the All India OBC Students Association, where Gandhi interacted with OBC student representatives.

Datta, who had earlier undertaken a padayatra seeking the release of pending fee reimbursement dues, raised the issue of the reported Rs 10,000 crore arrears in Telangana. He said students were facing difficulties in obtaining certificates due to the delay in reimbursement payments.

He also highlighted the need for a nationwide caste census and greater social justice for OBC communities. Concerns relating to the NF-OBC fellowship, including the limited number of 1,000 slots and delays in release of funds affecting PhD scholars, were also raised, he said.

According to Datta, Gandhi listened to the issues for around 45 minutes and assured him that he would raise them with the Telangana Chief Minister during an upcoming meeting.

Datta also said that, at his request, Gandhi signed his initials, “RG”, on his shirt near the chest.

AIOBCSA national president Kiran Kumar and student representatives from Osmania University and Jawaharlal Nehru University, among others, participated in the meeting, Datta said.
