IndiGo flight hits pole while parking at Srinagar airport; passengers, crew safe

Srinagar: An IndiGo flight came into contact with a Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) pole while parking at Srinagar international airport on Friday. However, all passengers and crew are safe.

Srinagar airport authority officials said an IndiGo flight came into contact with a VDGS pole while parking at Srinagar international airport on Friday morning.

“All passengers and crew are safe, no injuries reported, airport operations remain normal”, officials said. The IndiGo flight operated from Navi Mumbai to Srinagar. It came into contact with a VDGS pole while being positioned for parking at Srinagar Airport on Friday morning.

“IndiGo flight 6E 225 (VT-NOG) was being positioned at Bay No. 06 at around 9.02 a.m. today when the aircraft came into contact with the VDGS pole during the parking process.

“All passengers and crew members are safe, and no injuries have been reported,” the airport authority said adding that the passengers and crew were safely deboarded using manual aircraft stairs.

The officials said in a statement that the details and circumstances surrounding the incident will be examined by the appropriate authorities as per prescribed procedures.

“The exact cause will be ascertained following completion of the enquiry and no conclusion regarding the cause is being drawn at this stage”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, airport operations remained normal at Srinagar international airport with flight arrivals and departures continuing as per schedule.

Srinagar International Airport (SXR) operates around 20 to 24 daily departing flights (and roughly 40 to 60 total daily flight movements including arrivals) connecting to major domestic destinations.

Five major carriers operate regular flights from Srinagar International Airport including IndiGo (highest frequency and most destinations), Air India, Air India Express, SpiceJet and Akasa Air.

Major daily routes include New Delhi (DEL): Busiest route with multiple daily non-stop flights. Jammu (IXJ): Frequent daily/weekly commuter connections. Mumbai (BOM): Regular daily and connecting services.

Other key destinations include: Chandigarh (IXC), Bengaluru (BLR), Hyderabad (HYD), and Amritsar (ATQ).

Flights generally operate during daytime hours typically governed by current airport availability and local schedules (roughly 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m./evening depending on seasonal night closures and ongoing runway maintenance notices).
