Seeks Rs 10.12 cr for Khammam schools; urges VC for Earth Sciences University

Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao
Khammam : Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has sought Rs 10.12 crore for the construction of new buildings, repairs, and improvement of infrastructure for government and Zilla Parishad schools in Khammam constituency, while urging the government to appoint a regular Vice-Chancellor for Dr Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University in Kothagudem.
The minister made the requests during a meeting with Education Department Principal Secretary Yogita Rana at the Secretariat on Friday, stressing the need to strengthen public education and improve facilities for students.
Tummala urged the department to sanction the proposed funds for 16 schools in Khammam Urban and Raghunathapalem mandal. The proposed works include construction of new school buildings, repairs, provision of basic amenities and installation of digital and other teaching equipment.
A total of 2,988 students are studying in the 16 schools identified for development. The minister pointed out that a large proportion of the students belonged to economically weaker sections, backward classes and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
“Improved infrastructure and access to quality education would help create a better learning environment, enhance students’ academic performance and strengthen confidence in government schools,” he said.
The proposal covers eight schools in Khammam Urban and another eight in Raghunathapalem mandal. The schools identified in Khammam Urban include the NSC Colony Government High School, Pandurangapuram Zilla Parishad High School, Rajendranagar High School, G. Khammam High School, Balajinagar ZP High School, Kuchavalli Primary School, Balapeta (YSR Colony) MPP School, and Rajaveedhi Primary School. The schools in Raghunathapalem mandal include V. Venkatayapalem ZP High School, schools at Yerlarpudi and V. Venkatayapalem, Puvvada Nagar, Papatapalli, Manchukonda, Koyachalaka, and Chimmapudi.
The minister requested the department to explore available funding sources and accord priority to the proposed works to ensure that students receive better classrooms, essential facilities and improved educational resources.
Additionally, Tummala urged the government to appoint a regular Vice-Chancellor at Dr Manmohan Singh Earth Sciences University in Kothagudem at the earliest, stating that full-time leadership was essential for effective administration and faster implementation of development initiatives. He stressed the need to address administrative difficulties, shortages of basic infrastructure and issues concerning employees at the university. The minister said the institution had considerable potential to advance education and research in earth sciences, mineral exploration and environmental studies. “Strengthening its academic and research environment, along with improving facilities, would help the university develop to higher standards,” he added.
Tummala also enclosed a representation submitted by the university’s Non-Teaching Employees Association on September 17, urging the authorities to examine the issues raised and take appropriate action. He called for measures to strengthen the university’s administrative framework, improve essential facilities and resolve employee-related concerns to ensure its smooth functioning.
