Mahabubnagar: Government Whip Yennam Srinivas Reddy said efforts would be made to transform MVS Government Degree College in Mahabubnagar into one of the best educational institutions in Telangana.

He performed bhoomi pooja for the new building works on Saturday.

A comprehensive integrated building complex would be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 70 crore, with foundation work for the first phase worth Rs 20.50 crore taken up now. “The remaining Rs 50 crore would be provided in phases,” he said.

“Around 3,500 students are currently studying at the college,” he said, adding that courses in banking services, financial management and civil services had been introduced to improve employment and competitive-examination opportunities for students.

A hostel for girl students and development of the college ground were also being taken up. Further, Rs 15 crore would be spent on developing the MVS Junior College on the lines of a Telangana Public School, offering facilities from pre-primary to Class XII.

The entire MVS campus would be developed as an education hub catering to students from the primary level to degree and postgraduate education, said Yennam. The institution would be equipped with modern infrastructure over the next three to four years.
