Says govt helping poor release dream of owning a house

Yennam Srinivas distributes Indiramma housing papers to beneficiaries
Mahabubnagar: The state government is committed to helping every eligible poor family in assembly constituency realise his dream of owning a house, Government Whip and Mahabubnagar MLA Yennam Srinivas Reddy said while distributing Indiramma housing proceedings to beneficiaries living in huts as part of the second phase of the scheme here on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, he said 3,500 houses were sanctioned for the constituency in the first phase and another 2,000 houses in the second phase, taking the total to 5,500.
The government provides financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh per house, with funds being credited directly to beneficiaries’ bank accounts in stages based on construction progress. Officials monitor the construction and upload photographs online before the eligible instalments are released.
He urged beneficiaries not to pay money to middlemen or anyone promising to secure housing sanctions or bills. If any official, public representative or intermediary demands money, beneficiaries should immediately bring the matter to his camp office, he said, assuring that the identity of complainants would be kept confidential and appropriate legal action taken.
The MLA said beneficiaries were selected based on poverty without discrimination on the basis of caste, religion or political affiliation. He added that efforts would be made to secure another 3,000 to 4,000 houses for the constituency in the next financial year after completion of the currently sanctioned houses.
The programme was attended by Mayor Gummala Mamatha Srinivas, MUDA Chairman Laxman Yadav, District Library Organisation Chairman Mallu Narasimha Reddy, District Olympic Association president N.P. Venkatesh and other Congress leaders, corporators, sarpanches and officials.
