Nellore: Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana laid foundation stone for a modern cricket stadium and sports complex at Government Polytechnic College in Nellore on Friday. He also performed bhumi puja for the construction of a water treatment plant on the college premises and planted saplings as part of Swachh Andhra–Swachh Bharat programme.
He participated in a cleanliness drive and personally cleaned roads along with officials and local representatives. Sanitation workers were felicitated on the occasion. Minister Narayana said several activities were being undertaken under Swachh Andhra initiative and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had dedicated third Saturday of every month to cleanliness campaign.
He appealed to people to actively participate in achieving a clean Andhra Pradesh. Narayana said waste-to-energy plants were already functioning in Visakhapatnam and Guntur and eight more plants are being established. Once the plants become operational, the garbage generated each day would be processed on the same day, he said. Referring to sports infrastructure, the Minister said foundation stones had been laid for a sports complex at the Government Polytechnic College and the works would commence immediately and be completed in three phases.
MLC Beeda Ravichandra, Mayor D Sujatha, Municipal Commissioner YO Nandan, Polytechnic College Principal Ramarao, Deputy Mayor Roop Kumar Yadav and others were present.
