Nellore: Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) has geared up to tackle the impact of Cyclone Murasu by forming special teams and taking precautionary measures, particularly in flood-prone areas in the city.

Municipal Commissioner YO Nandan said all NMC departments had been put on alert to respond to any emergency. He said that the civic body had identified vulnerable and flood-prone areas and fully prepared to take immediate steps to prevent waterlogging and clear accumulated rainwater during heavy rainfall.

He informed that flood relief and rehabilitation centres had been identified across Nellore city. People living in low-lying and flood-prone areas would be shifted to these centres whenever necessary and all essential facilities would be provided.

The Commissioner advised people not to stay in dilapidated houses or buildings and near walls that were in danger of collapsing. He also urged citizens to remain cautious around electricity poles and large hoardings, which could collapse due to strong winds.

He appealed citizens to contact the authorities through 0861-2356777, 1800-425-1113 in case of any emergency.
