Two new sand reaches approved in Nellore dist

Nellore: In order to meet the requirements of consumers, as per the government directions, the district administration has approved two sand reaches in the district and made them available from Wednesday. A meeting of district-level sand committee chaired by district Collector Himanshu Shukla was held at the Collectorate on Wednesday.
The committee reviewed the present situation in the existing sand reaches and consumers’ demand for construction activity. As part of the measures to increase sand availability, the committee approved two new open semi-mechanised sand reaches at Gollakandukuru sand reach in Nellore with an estimated 1,50,690 metric tonnes of sand over an area of 10.046 hectares, and Devarapalem sand reach with 68,505 metric tonnes over 4.567 hectares in Nellore rural mandal.
The committee also approved extension of necessary permissions and operational period of the existing Apparaopalem-V and Viruvuru-V semi-mechanised sand reaches to facilitate extraction of the remaining sand. Apparaopalem-V has 98,650 metric tonnes and Viruvuru-V has 1,10,413 metric tonnes, with a combined balance of 2,09,063 metric tonnes. The operational period has been extended up to May 31, 2027, or until the remaining quantity is fully extracted, whichever is earlier.
The committee also approved a sale price of Rs 182 per metric tonne for sand obtained through de-casting of accumulated sand from 7.41 acres of patta land at Perumallapadu village in Chejerla mandal, following the necessary permissions.
Collector Shukla directed officials concerned to take coordinated measures to increase sand availability in the district and ensure that consumers have easy and uninterrupted access to sand.
Joint Collector Mogili Venkateswarlu, Mines and Geology Deputy Director Srinivasa Rao, Water Resources Department Executive Engineer Desi Naik, DTC Chander, Pollution Control Board Executive Engineer Ashok Kumar, DPO Raman, and officials from police, revenue, RWS and other departments attended the meeting.
