Ongole: Ongole town is set to celebrate its 150th anniversary with a grand event titled ‘Mana Ongole- Mana Panduga’ on September 30. MLA Damachala Janardhan Rao announced the details of the celebrations at a press meet at the town TDP office in Ongole on Monday and called on all residents to take part in the festivities.
Speaking at the meeting, the MLA said that as part of the ongoing celebrations, an Asoka Chakra rock edict was installed at Church Centre, 150 medical camps were held in a single day, and over 80,000 houses were visited in one hour to collect wet and dry waste separately, setting a record. Though three days of celebrations were planned earlier, the event was condensed to a single day from morning to evening on September 30 due to prevailing circumstances, he said. He announced that the day will have cultural programmes and felicitation of prominent persons in the morning. From 3.30 pm to 5.00 pm, a procession of 75 pairs of Ongole breed bulls will march from Mini Stadium to the NTR statue at Addanki Bus Stand. Former Vice President Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu, Odisha Governor Kambhampati Haribabu, Assembly Speaker Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu and several political leaders and public representatives will attend the event, Janardhan Rao said.
Municipal Commissioner T Venkata Krishnaiah, AMC Chairman Rachagorla Venkatarao and city TDP president Bandaru Madan were present at the meeting.
