14,488 volunteers to be deployed for Pushkaralu

Rajamahendravaram: The East Godavari district administration has prepared a large volunteer deployment plan for Godavari Pushkaralu‑2027, outlining the mobilisation of 14,488 volunteers from 39 registered voluntary organisations and youth groups to support crowd management and pilgrim services.
At a review meeting held at the collectorate camp office on Saturday, district collector Kirti Chekuri said the volunteer strength this year is nearly triple that of the 2015 Pushkaralu, when 5,368 volunteers from 30 organisations participated.
In Rajamahendravaram division, 19 of 22 organisations will field 11,625 volunteers, while 11 of 17 organisations in Kovvur division will deploy 2,863 volunteers.
Chekuri said volunteers will be positioned across five key operational areas-ghat safety, traffic regulation, sanitation, medical assistance, and food and information services. They will support police at river ghats, temples, busy junctions and queue lines; maintain cleanliness at bathing points and food distribution centres; guide devotees on proper disposal of plastic and puja materials; assist elderly and divyang pilgrims with wheelchairs and ramps; distribute ORS packets; and shift sick visitors to medical camps.
Help desks will be set up at railway stations, bus stands and major Pushkaram zones.
Superintendent of police D Narasimha Kishore said youth volunteers from groups such as ABVP and the Red Cross will be assigned duties based on their technical skills, including drone‑based aerial crowd monitoring. The police department will train volunteers in polite conduct, basic first aid and crowd control.
Several organisations announced major service commitments.
Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations will provide free meals to 25,000–30,000 devotees daily, along with milk for infants. Rajasthan Seva Samiti and Jain Seva Samiti will jointly deploy 500 volunteers to serve meals to 10,000 pilgrims each day.
The Indian Red Cross Society will station 500 volunteers at transit hubs in Rajamahendravaram and Kovvur. ABVP will engage 500 volunteers for drone operations and crowd management, while Manavatha Voluntary Organization will post 120 volunteers at river ghats. Jeevanadhi Foundation will deploy 300 volunteers for ghat sanitation and plastic‑free campaigns.
Additional support has been pledged by Amma Bhagavan Nilayam, Andhra Kesari Yuvajana Samithi, Rice Mills Association, Rajamahendravaram Janahitha Yuvatha, and Rotary Club.
