Tirupati: YSRCP MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy alleged that incidents in Punganur, Rayachoti and Tirupati had undermined democracy. Speaking to the media in Tirupati on Friday, he accused the ruling coalition of preventing YSRCP candidates from filing nominations and alleged that officials were acting in a biased manner.
Mithun Reddy claimed that efforts were made to prevent YSRCP candidates from filing nominations in Rayachoti because the party was expected to win. In Punganur, he alleged that a group of around 1,000 people attacked them when they tried to file a nomination. He said he personally accompanied the chairman candidate to submit the nomination. According to Mithun Reddy, the returning officer told them that there was pressure from higher authorities not to accept the nomination. He also alleged that CRPF personnel were attacked and their vehicles were damaged. Accusing the ruling coalition of resorting to such actions because it could not win the election, Mithun Reddy said the party would pursue legal action against the government. YSRCP state spokesperson Bhumana Karunakar Reddy also criticised the ruling coalition, alleging that people from outside the area had been brought in to attack Mithun Reddy. He claimed that similar treatment was meted out to YSRCP leader Srikanth Reddy in Rayachoti and alleged that incidents of violence also took place in Tirupati.
He warned those involved in the alleged attacks that the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) would not remain in power forever. Party leaders Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, M Gurumoorthy, B Madhusudan Reddy and others were present.
