Tirupati: High political drama unfolded in Tirupati as YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) mayoral nominee Vasu Yadav successfully submitted his nomination papers for the Tirupati Municipal Corporation on Sunday morning, following two days of severe obstruction.

Speaking to reporters, YSRCP senior leader and former MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy stated that Vasu Yadav was repeatedly prevented from submitting his papers on Saturday due to alleged blockades by ruling alliance workers and police inaction.

Bhumana alleged that nomination papers were forcibly snatched from a Member of Parliament who was attempting to submit them on Vasu Yadav’s behalf.

Despite filing formal written complaints with the State Election Commission (SEC), District Collector, and Superintendent of Police, no immediate official relief was provided, prompting Vasu Yadav and his mother to stage a midnight protest outside the municipal office.

Determined to exercise his electoral rights on the final day, Vasu Yadav arrived at the municipal office at 6:00 AM on Sunday. To overcome surrounding blockades, he reportedly scaled the rear perimeter wall of the municipal building and waited inside until returning officers opened the nomination desk to officially accept his candidate papers. Characterizing the incident as a grave threat to democratic norms, Bhumana Karunakar Reddy asserted that contesting elections remains a fundamental constitutional right.

He commended Vasu Yadav’s resilience as a crucial step in safeguarding democratic principles, while demanding an impartial SEC investigation into the incident, strict action against perpetrators, and adequate police protection for all candidate filings across Tirupati.
