Governor and TB Association of AP honorary president Justice S Abdul Nazeer launches the 77th TB Seal Sale Campaign at Lok Bhavan in Vijayawada on Wednesday
Vijayawada: Governor and honorary president of the TB Association of AP Justice S Abdul Nazeer launched the 77th TB Seal Sale Campaign at a programme held Lok Bhavan here on Wednesday.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor said that although 144 years had passed since Sir Robert Koch discovered the causative organism of tuberculosis (TB), the disease continued to claim lives despite significant advances in its prevention and treatment.
He said TB was not merely a medical challenge but also a social and economic concern affecting individuals, families and communities. The fight against the disease, therefore, should go beyond treatment and focus on creating awareness, ensuring early diagnosis, prevention, adequate nutrition, social support and active community participation.
The Governor said the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, launched by the Central government, emphasised a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to eliminate TB from the country ahead of the global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target of 2030 adopted by the United Nations.
He said the TB Seal Sale Campaign had special significance as it combined public awareness with public participation in the fight against tuberculosis. He appealed to citizens, educational institutions, industries, corporate houses, voluntary organisations and philanthropists to extend their support and contribute generously to the campaign.
